bus network
This refers to a network of computers where the machines are connected to a central bus unit which transmits the message it recieves
Boot Partition
This refers to a partition on a hard disk which contains the operating system.
BIOS
Stands for Basic input/output operating system. A set of procedures/devices that run when the PC is switched on
includes controlling the keyboard, screen etc
Benchmarking
A way of testing the system
Bat file
A file extension used in MS-DOS systems and refers to a batch file
Bandwidth
This can refer to the amount of data that can be transmitted along a cable
Back-end server
A computer connected to a network that carriers out tasks requested by client workstation
Back-end network
This refers to the connection between a mainframe computer and a high speed mass storage device or file server
Byte
A group of eight bits or binary digits
Backup
Copy data to alternate media to prevent data loss. Types of backup Normal, Incremental, Differential, Copy, Daily
